ArAS Annual Prize for Young Scientists

 

 

ArAS is pleased to announce its second Annual Prize for Young Scientists. As in 2004, the prize will be awarded to a young scientist under 35 working in astronomy or related field and showing significant results in research and/or other scientific activities connected anyhow with the Armenian astronomy. Nominations may be made by ArAS members or any research organization from Armenia or elsewhere and should be sent to one of the ArAS Co-Presidents. They should include personal data for the nominee and a brief description of his/her achievements during the year, including important scientific results, all published papers, participation in meetings, given talks, etc., whatever is considered to be important. The deadline for applications is December 1. The selection will be made by a special committee and the results will be announced in the last issue of ArAS Newsletter at the end of each year. A diploma and sum of $100 will be awarded to the winner.

 

As in the last year, the ArAS Co-President Prof. Yervant Terzian is sponsoring the ArAS annual Prize for Young Scientists in 2005 too. It was announced during Prof. Terzian's visit to Byurakan in May this year.

ANSEF call for proposals

 

 

The Armenian National Science & Education Fund (ANSEF) has announced a new call for proposals on research projects to be carried out in 2006 for scientists residing in Armenia. Proposals should be submitted electronically through the ANSEF website. Each grant is worth USD 5000; The deadline is August 31, 2005. Awards will be announced at the end of December 2005.

 

Applicants may proceed filling out their applications immediately through the ANSEF website. The new electronic system allows applicants to gradually prepare, edit, and change their applications on-line over the next weeks until the deadline of the competition is reached. ANNIVERSARIES

 

 

Ms. Ofelia Kh. TOROSSIAN, celebrated recently her 50th anniversary. She was born on 10.01.1955 in Byurakan, the village hosting the famous observatory. Ofelia has graduated from the Yerevan State University and works at the Byurakan Observatory since 1977. Her main research is being carried out for the extragalactic astronomy, particularly study of BL Lac objects. Ofelia is one of the founding members of ArAS.
