Development of Scientific Computing Grid on the Base of Armcluster for South Caucasian Region

Introduction and Overview

Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory possesses a huge amount of astronomical information obtained during last 60 years on about 20 thousand photographic plates and films. The most valuable part of this information is the First and Second Byurakan Surveys with many millions of low-dispersion spectra. However, every plate with astronomical direct images or spectra is highly valuable as well and needs a safe maintenance for next generations of astronomers. On the other hand this information is not as safe as needed because the photographic emulsion is very vulnerable against various types of damages. That is why a process of digitization of this information is being implemented. All the digitized information has served as a base for the creation and development of the Armenian Virtual Observatory (ArVO). Now ArVO has to create a standard environment for utilization of all these data and integration in the International Virtual Observatories Alliance (IVOA). The amount of information will increase with an accelerating rate. After 1m Schmidt camera is modernized it will be able to provide up to 1Gb information every night. Thus, very soon useful information to be analyzed or elaborated for any scientific purposes will measured by Tbs. The Problem of Blue Faint Galaxies is included into the list of 23 problems in the 21st century. Very shortly the problem could be described as follows. At present it is accepted widely that galaxy content is known for z=0 (our cosmological epoch). Thus one can estimate the same content for the far past (z>0) using various evolutional paths of galaxies elaborated and used cosmologists. All such calculations show that faint blue galaxies (located at large distances or for larger z) should be mach less. However observations demonstrate good agreement for red faint galaxies and absolute discrepancy for blue ones. No any natural explanation has been given up to date. A qualitative interpretation is given based on the hypothesis (strengthened by number of other observational data) that new galaxies are being born at present (z=0) and new-born galaxies possess an anomalous redshift. It can be shown mathematically that such a physical picture in the described situation could be observed. This problem can be considered also on the base of modeling the real situation. For this end one needs to operate with huge databases and create physical picture for millions of “numerical objects” which are being in various stages of their evolution.
